Think how much better Canada could be.
Canadian families know that education and training are vital to the future success of their children. In the New Democrat vision, every child will start school ready to learn and graduate ready to succeed.
New Democrats are committed to social reinvestment in post secondary education. This will improve the resources for Canadian educators and encourage an increase in the number of qualified teachers, and expand federal investment in research and development, and the National Research Council, and in private non-profit research and development centres.
The NDP have always maintained support for a fully accessible, high quality, public school system. This kind of public education system should make a private school education unnecessary, and thus, like a payment for a private tutor, should be paid for individually by parents above and beyond the taxation cost of supporting a high quality public education system.
New Democrats remain stalwart in defending public education. We have continually disavowed charter schools, vouchers, private schools, and private universities. The NDP believe that public education must be, Universal - with access for all; Comprehensive - with opportunity for all; proficient - with achievement for all; and Accountable - with value for all.
New Democrats support official language minorities having access to a standard of education equivalent to that of the official language majority and would fund these institutions and programs accordingly. Equitable access to official language minority education, and adult education should be available as a right to all groups.
New Democrats believe that the federal government must fully support, and collaboratively augment, provincial educational programs by facilitating full educational access, and equal opportunity and advancement for all immigrants and refugees.
